Using the idea of traces and aerial views as our starting point, we will explore layering up of fabrics and making rhythmic surfaces and structures. Cut, slice, slash and explore faux chenille type effects, and the use of a pleating machine as a method of stitching and texturising alongside with machine and hand stitch. Visual information derived from aerial views will be developed in a variety of ways (including work on paper and in sketchbooks) then selectively taken forward through sampling into larger pieces.
By the end of the course you will be able to
· Develop ideas around the theme of traces and aerial views
· Explore techniques of layering, cutting, slicing and stitching
· Produce samples illustrating techniques
· Develop a larger piece
The course will involve demonstrations, visual presentation, exploration and development of ideas and techniques, group and individual tuition.
