3-daagse cursus. Hawar school
Jeanette Appleton: Raised Surfaces in Felt making.
This course is mainly for students who wish to extend their individual textile practise and personal development of work. The main theme will be exploring embossed and textured surfaces in felt. The focus is to discover new structures by changing the methods and manipulation of materials.
Initially working with white on white will emphasis the shadow effect on the raised felted surfaces. By inserting stiff or synthetic fabrics shapes can be created between the layers of felt. Various lines are made by using cords, tape and ribbons, which are more defined under transparent fabric. These effects are similar to Italian or Trapunto quilting. Colour will be introduced to discover the interesting change of shape and line on different backgrounds.
Through personal tutorials the samples will be collated and arranged with participant’s individual ideas to suggest further development. Depending on what develops through process, an idea can be taken further into design sheets, a prototype, or a finished item for fashion, interiors or gallery work.
